My Purpose is Reinforced by Serendipity

I’ve noticed an interesting trend when it comes to the goals I’ve set out for my career. It started at the beginning of 2011, after a few months in Seattle, when I decided I wanted to sign with an agency by the end of the year. I was new to the business side of things and spent time learning how to go about getting an agent. The year came and went (as they do) and I didn’t have an agent. Then, in February 2012, Melissa Baldauf from TCM saw me at the TPS Generals and called me in for an audition/meeting. I signed with her by the end of the week. I was only two months off my goal 🙂

Then in 2012, after learning more about the business and having several friends travel to and from LA, I made it my goal to get down there and check out the LA scene for myself. I didn’t make it down to LA in 2012, but I shot the Besame Mucho music video in November. This led to my current opportunity where I am spending this spring in LA. Again, the timing was tantalizingly close to my arbitrary goal.

Once I knew I was going to spend ten weeks in LA, I decided it would be very beneficial for me to be SAG-AFTRA eligible because there is so much more union work in LA. Being eligible would make me more marketable and make it easier for me to approach agents and submit to union jobs. While I didn’t become SAG-AFTRA eligible before coming down to LA, I had the incredible opportunity to film the pilot for a SAG webseries yesterday. The paperwork has now been submitted for my union eligibility. I am so excited.

My experiences lead me to believe that when you work hard and focus your energy on where you’d like to go next, the universe will somehow work to make that happen. It won’t always happen in the timeframe you would like or in the ways you are expecting, but it will happen if it is right for your path.

I don’t believe in sitting around waiting for things to miraculously happen in my life. By taking action and being true to what I want, things have been unfolding in ways I couldn’t have planned or even imagined.
